Minnesota History

Minnesota has a very interesting history. Minnesota had many Native American tribes. That includes Dakota Sioux, Arapoho, Cheyenne, Iowa, Omaha, Winnebago, and Ojibwe. The first European explorers that explored the area were from France. The first people to settle in the land that is now Minnesota were the Hennepins. Hennepin County was started by Father Louis Hennepin who was a Belgian Roman Catholic priest who was from Ath, Belgium. Minnesota was then taken over by the British. Then in 1803, the US bought The Louisiana Purchase, and gained Minnesota. It officially became a US state on May 11, 1858. Minnesota was the 32nd US state.
